Renting a Date for a Wedding: Rules, Rates, and Safety
Going to a wedding alone isn't a problem, until ten different people ask you the same question within two hours. That's where the idea of booking someone to come with you to events came from. This page explains how it works, the rules that aren't negotiable, typical rates, and how to prepare so it isn't awkward.
Why people book company for events
It's almost never about showing off. Most often people want to avoid exhausting conversations: when are you getting married, why are you still single, whatever happened to that one. Being asked once is fine. Being asked again and again at an event you have to attend for your family is what makes people not want to go at all.
Other common reasons: a work event where you're expected to bring a partner, a reunion where you already promised to come with someone, or simply not wanting to sit alone for three hours at a table full of strangers.
Rules that aren't negotiable
One rule decides everything: meetings happen only in public places. Weddings, receptions, family events, cafes, restaurants, reunions, work events. Not a home, not a boarding room, not a hotel, not anywhere secluded.
This rule isn't a formality. It protects both sides at once. The talent is protected from situations they can't walk away from, and you as the customer are protected from unnecessary accusations. A talent who is asked to meet somewhere private must decline and report it, and the booking is cancelled, no argument.
Beyond that: no physical contact that hasn't been agreed first, no role that makes the talent uncomfortable, and the talent can end the session if things change from what was agreed.
Preparing your story so it isn't awkward
This is the part most often skipped, even though it matters most. What makes things awkward isn't the person, it's a story that doesn't add up when someone asks. Before the day, agree on a few simple things:
- How you met. Pick something believable and easy to remember, like being in the same community or being introduced by a work friend.
- How long you've known each other. A number you both remember, without too much detail.
- What you call each other. Agree on what to call each other so it doesn't sound stiff.
- What can and can't be shared about each of you.
- A stop signal. An ordinary phrase that means "I need to step out for a bit", so either of you can leave without causing a scene.
This prep chat usually takes about fifteen minutes over text, and it makes a far bigger difference than any other preparation.
Typical rates
The hourly rate is much higher than for online services, because the talent gives up travel and preparation time and takes on risks that don't exist online.
Two hours minimum, because events like weddings rarely finish sooner than that.
Transport is arranged separately and agreed before you set off, not after the event.
At TemanCerita, this service is only open to talents whose identity has been matched against their ID card, not every talent.
Details and requirements are on the offline date page.
Safety for both sides
If you're a customer: book through the platform, not through a private arrangement. If something happens, there's someone who can be held accountable. Don't ask the talent to do anything beyond what was agreed, including moving on to somewhere else after the event.
If you're a talent: always tell one person you trust where you're going, what time, and who with. Bring your own fare home, don't rely on the customer. And if anything makes you uncomfortable during the event, stopping is always allowed.
If a provider is willing to arrange meetings in private places, that isn't the same service described on this page, and you should walk away. The public-place rule is what separates companionship from something else.
Frequently asked questions
How does renting a date for a wedding work?
You book a talent to come with you to an event in a public place, such as a wedding, a family event, or a reunion. The talent comes as your companion, with a story you've agreed on beforehand, and the session ends when the event is over.
Can we meet at a home or hotel?
No, and this isn't negotiable. Meetings happen only in public places. A talent who is asked to meet somewhere private must decline and report it to our admin, and the booking is cancelled.
How much does it cost?
Much more than online services, because of the travel time, preparation time, and risk the talent takes on. Each talent sets an hourly rate with a two-hour minimum, and transport is usually arranged separately from the start.
Will the talent pretend to be my partner?
As far as being your companion and following the story you both agreed on, yes. But there's no physical contact without consent, no role that makes the talent uncomfortable, and the talent can end the session if the situation changes.
