Is It Safe to Pay Someone to Talk to Online? How to Check
It's a fair question, and it's best asked before you transfer money to anyone. Below are the signs of a service you can trust, the signs to steer clear of, and the things you never need to hand over to anyone, including us.
Signs of a service you can trust
You see the price before you book. Rates should be on the profile, not revealed once you're already interested. A service that hides its prices until you message usually has a reason for it.
Payment goes through one official channel. This matters most. If money goes into someone's personal account, there's nobody you can hold accountable when there's a problem. At TemanCerita every payment is confirmed by our admin first, and talents are not allowed to accept direct transfers.
The service's limits are stated openly. A serious service tells you what it doesn't do, not just what it does. If every request sounds possible, that isn't friendliness, it's a sign there are no rules.
There's somewhere to complain. It should be clear where to complain if a talent behaves inappropriately, and your complaint should reach someone who can act on it, not the talent themselves.
Signs you should walk away
Asking you to transfer to a personal account. Refusing to name a price until you send a photo. Pushing you to move to another app from the start. Offering things beyond conversation. Asking for a photo of your ID card "for verification". Rushing you because a promo supposedly ends today.
One more that often slips by: accounts that offer their services by private message when you never went looking. A legitimate service doesn't need to chase people one by one.
What you shouldn't give to anyone
Your home address, the specific name of your office or campus, a photo of your ID card, bank or card details, any OTP code, and your personal social media accounts. None of these are needed just to talk or to have company while you fall asleep.
That includes us. TemanCerita admins never ask for OTP codes, your account password, or a photo of your ID card over chat. If someone claiming to be an admin asks for those, it isn't us.
What we do on our side
To be fair, here's what we can claim, and nothing more.
Talents can't take orders right after signing up. There's a written screening test, and some of its questions deliberately test risky situations, such as how they respond if a customer steers the conversation toward sexual topics, asks to meet somewhere private, or wants to pay outside the app. A wrong answer on any of those questions is flagged red and reviewed by hand, whatever the overall score. After that there's still an interview.
Payments are confirmed by our admin, so there's an order record to refer to if something happens. Unconfirmed orders don't count as valid bookings.
What we can't promise: we can't guarantee someone won't screenshot a conversation, and we can't guarantee every session will feel like a good fit. That's why the advice above about keeping personal details private still applies, and booking a short session with a new talent is still the cheapest way to try.
If something happens
End the session first. You don't owe anyone an explanation. Then keep evidence of the conversation and let our admin know through the WhatsApp number on the site. Mention your order number so it can be traced right away. If it involves threats or extortion, report it to the authorities as well, and we'll help provide the order details they need.
Frequently asked questions
Is paying someone to talk online safe?
It's safe as long as the service has clear limits, payment goes through one official channel, and you're not asked for personal details you don't need to give. What to watch out for are individual offers through social media accounts that ask for direct transfers to a personal account.
Do I have to give my real name?
No. To talk, you don't need to share your real name, address, workplace, or personal social media accounts. Talents aren't allowed to ask for them either.
What if a talent asks me to transfer to their own account?
Refuse and report it to our admin. All payments go only through TemanCerita admin confirmation. Asking for payment outside that breaks the rules, and talents who do it face action.
Does anyone else read my conversations?
Conversations are between you and the talent. What you should know is that no service anywhere can guarantee someone won't take a screenshot, so the old rule still applies: be honest with your story, keep your personal details to yourself.
What if I feel uncomfortable during a session?
Just stop. You don't owe any explanation. Then let our admin know so it's recorded and followed up, especially if the cause was the talent's behaviour.
If it all feels clear now
Look through the talent profiles, with rates shown upfront, and start with the shortest session.
